Do flowers have feelings?
I am not convinced that flowers can be joyful, sad or anxious, but I do believe that they reflect the emotions that I feel.

Why do I paint flowers?
Flowers reflect my emotions in a very subtle way. Both of my grandmothers loved gardening, but I did not really understand why until I had my own garden. I discovered that flowers reflect my joy, frustration, even sadness, depending on the circumstances.
Flowers became a way for me to express my own feelings I usually keep to myself. I try to focus on the happiness of others, rather than have others see or hear my personal concerns. But when I paint, I finally realize my own emotions.
Bright colors can express joy for me, but sometimes it is really just deep pain.
The pastels feel soft and comforting to me but again, it may also be me being timid or shy.
And with all the kids I have (a lot!), the worry can creep in. So I paint whole fields of flowers creating a big protective garden of love and hope.
Each flower I paint is a reflection of my emotions with its own personality.

Heavenly Dream
This imaginary landscape makes me believe there is love in the air. The blues help me slip into a more cerebral state-of-mind, and the pinks have uplifting power to overcome my quietness. There is no reason to focus on anything in this print. Just absorb the moment and soon you will feel much better.
Graceful Elegance
This was one of my first paintings of long-stem flowers. It reminds me of those times when I used to dance in fancy clothes with fabulous shoes. I felt like Cinderella at the Ball and hoped my Prince would show up to sweep me off my feet!

Sure to invite conversation, the pink flowers cling to their stems. You can see the blooms shouting their joy! Memories of special times are always fresh in our minds!
Some of the petals are a little faded and limp, but that does not make them any less beautiful.

These pink flowers, keep me focused on the positive and brave as I move forward. In this painting the path is right in front of me but the way to move forward is unclear. Just like many things in life, there are probably many good options!

It is hard to resist painting poppies. They are so dainty, but confident at the same time. Known for their longevity and durability, they seem to inspire me to stay-the-course and accomplish things I would not otherwise have done. Their strength becomes my optimism.

These playful flowers come from a memory of a client who was cultivating a whole hillside of Canna Lillies. She transformed her slope from boring to extraordinarily beautiful. It was so remarkable that I can never forget it. A true source of inspiration.

You know that feeling when watching a sexy, romantic comedy? For me a beautiful red rose brings back those precious moments in my life. It would be interesting to hear your feelings about the rose. Maybe it’s a love that was lost, a first love, or the love of your life.

The warmth of a hug when you first see an old friend, a cuddle with a sleepy baby. or the hope inspired by a bud transforming into a delicate flower.
